Because Pikachu survived the car crash, he surmises Harry also survived. At a cafe, Pikachu explains he has amnesia, and the only clue of his identity is Harry’s name and address on his hat, leading him to believe he was Harry’s partner. While visiting Harry’s apartment, Tim meets a deerstalker clad Pikachu that is able to talk to Tim and be understood by him. He’s told his father has died in a car accident. Tim is contacted by the police of Ryme City, a city where humans and Pokemon live together in peace and catching and battling Pokemon is outlawed. The film is set in the Pokemon universe, was Tim Goodman is a 21-year-old insurance adjuster, who gave up his dream of being a Pokemon trainer following the death of his mother and becoming estranged from his father, Harry Goodman.

On the plus side, there are some epic action scenes, and the CGI looked half decent, but I really was expecting more from this well-known franchise. We also didn’t get to see the true powers of the Pokemon’s, mainly because the director chose to concentrate on Tim’s life story, which made the film extremely dull. Ryan Reynolds, who supplied the voice for Detective Pikachu, really saved the day, with his witty lines and unique sense of comedy, but he wasn’t able to shine alongside such a weak cast and an awful storyline. With that aside, the annoying leading characters, Tim Goodman ( Justice Smith) and Lucy Stevens (Kathryn Newton), really couldn’t act, and they made the film seem like it should be made for TV.
Why do these filmmakers have to over-complicate the simplest of storylines? This is supposed to be a film for all ages, but there is so much technical jargon throughout the film, it just became a right mess.
Chasing clues together on an epic adventure through Ryme City, they uncover a shocking plot that could destroy the whole Pokemon universe. When ace detective Harry Goodman (Paul Kitson) goes missing, his son, Tim ( Justice Smith / Max Fincham), and Harry's former Pokemon partner, Detective Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds), join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.

Must admit, wasn't quite what I expected, however, this a live and CGI orientated movie is hugely entertaining. There will be danger for all as they get closer to the truth, not all is as it appears to be. The investigation with the help of new friend Lucy (Kathryn Newton) begins. Pikachu who survived the crash tells Tim that he thinks his father did also. Whilst in his apartment in Ryme City that had been arranged for his stay Tim is disturbed by Pikachu (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) who aspires to be a detective, strangely he is able to converse with the pokemon (the only human who can) Tim, travels to the city a place where Pokemon and humans co-exist to say goodbye to his father. In this we follow Tim Goodman ( Justice Smith) who had recently lost his mother receiving a message from Ryme City where his estranged father lives.the message telling him his father had been killed in a car accident. My daughter has seemingly passed her Pokemon obsession on, she still buys the games for her consuls. Bought this for my granddaughter for her birthday, remember years ago watching Pokemon week after week with my youngest daughter who's now a parent herself.
